Acting Tutor and Vocal coach

On returning to the UK after a five year stint in Africa as the Artistic Director of the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare in 2002 Mark began teaching students acting and singing as a freelance tutor/director in several major London drama schools…….

Hence he has many ex students from 16 years of training actors appearing in major West End and touring musicals in leading and ensemble roles. He also gained an MA in Theatre and Performance from the Rose Bruford Academy in 2008.

As a vocal tutor his work is based in the work of Moriarty/Morrison/Rodenberg, but focused towards a complete classical vocal technique which encompasses a Bel Canto/Alexander Technique background…………. with a focus on strength, support and placement in a musical theatre context ……….drawn from his experience as a musical theatre actor/singer in diverse styles of show. Again, his approach for each is to work through specific sensations while singing, rather than using theory or complex terminology and is always focusing on the individual and their specific needs and potential.

As a musical theatre acting tutor he uses an eclectic variety of approaches which include acting techniques based on traditional British classical craft, the Stanislavski Method of Physical Action, Viola Spolin improvisation work and Practical Aesthetics as explored by Macey/Mamet. With all of these techniques he focuses on the practical and immediate application of these working methods in an accessible and holistic way for the student…….rather than a theoretical or academic way of working.
